Your body has just made one of the most extraordinary things it will never do: grow another human life. After nine months of waiting, you're happy to finally be home with your new baby.
Much of your focus and energy in the weeks and months ahead will be on the baby but remember that you also need to take care of yourself. You may have had a cesarean birth (C-section) or normal delivery. You may have labored for a few hours or days.

No matter what your delivery was like, your body has been through a trauma nonetheless. It will need time to recover.
Your postpartum recovery will not only be a few days. Recovering fully from pregnancy and childbirth can take months. While many women often feel recovered by 6-8 weeks, it may take longer than this to feel like yourself again.
Meanwhile, you may feel like your body has turned against you. Try not to get frustrated. Remember that your body is not aware of your deadlines and expectations. The best thing you can do for it is rest, eat well, and give you a break.
Also during this period, your hormones are fluctuating. You can not think clearly and be more emotional. Again, give yourself time for this to pass. However, if at any time you think about hurting yourself or your baby, tell someone.
